Peter Hayton

peter-hayton-portraitI have enjoyed drawing with pencil, pen & ink and painting in watercolour since my childhood.

The inspiration and encouragement for painting in miniature has come from my mother, who painted for the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, the Hilliard Society and the Society of Miniaturists.

I live in the Dorset coastal town of Poole and my love of the sea, through diving, sailing and power boating, have inspired a lot of my paintings. The scenes I paint are mostly based around Poole Harbour, the Dorset Coast and the Solent, but as time progresses I hope to include other coastline scenes and marine subjects.

Sunsets and Sunrises are one of my passions and you will often find me sat on our boat in Poole Harbour, or off the coast, waiting for the exact moment to snap them up in all their glory. I find them the most evocative of all the things I paint and get a real thrill in watching them come alive as each wash is laid onto the paper.

As well as my seascapes I am now being commissioned more and more to paint clients’ boats in action. Working from our own photographs, often taken at 26 knots plus, I love to capturing the excitement of the moment when the boats are racing along at speed.

Other strings to my painting bow include cars & general vehicles, houses &  buildings, pets & animals, military aircraft and military personnel & scenes.
